i am in arizona for the Lao Studies Conference. i will be showing the movie we made about teenage gambling in the southeast asian community on friday night. but it is being shown at the same time as another film about a Lao man's refugee experience. i think that film should draw a big crowd. maybe even me. what does it mean when i would rather go see his film than sit through the gambling film again? at least i can sit back and know that i am not a filmmaker. so even if nobody (not even me) shows up to watch the gambling movie, i can still feel ok about the world.
